Summary
Young people from a number of New York City schools speak candidly to peers about AIDS. The EVC team conducts street interviews with other teens to expose a range of myths and attitudes associated with the syndrome. They enlist the aid of former U.S. Surgeon General C. Everett Koop and Dr. Mark Wade, Medical Supervisor at the Spofford Juvenile Detention Center to provide vital information concerning the history of AIDS, its transmission and the differences between those who have AIDS and those who have tested positive for the HIV virus. Dr. Koop discusses incubation period, ways to contract the disease, the roles of sex and drugs. Dr. Wade delineates the type of sex: anal, oral and vaginal as well as preventive measures. The student researchers clarify, question and creatively re-emphasize this essential information.
