Summary
Brightly-hued animation complements this story about the aristocratic mouse Abelard Flint, who in August 1907, was enjoying an elegant picnic with his wife Amanda, when a violent rainstorm occurred. Attempting to retrieve Amanda's shawl blown away by the harsh winds, Abel is hurled into the river and marooned on a deserted island. Determined to survive this unlucky turn of events, Abel finds makeshift shelter in a log and experiments with various means of escape. Drawing on inner reservoirs of strength and patience, Abel staves off a predator owl, grows carrots, weaves a cape, and discovers a hidden talent for sculpting clay. With the aid of a debonair frog named Gower, Abel finally returns home to Mouseville and his beloved Amanda, with her shawl in hand.
