- Description
- 1 videocassette (39 min.) : sd., col.; 1/2 in.
- Summary
- A showcase of three Caldecott winners, each different in mood and style. 1.) Ben's Trumpet--Based on the book by Rachel Isadora. Ben lives across the street from the Zig Zag Jazz Club. He likes the sounds of the instruments but his favorite is the trumpet. When he begins to play an imaginary horn, the neighborhood children mock him. The trumpeter from the club invites Ben to play his pretend horn and the little boy's aspiration comes true. Color and special effects accentuate the rhythms and the power of Ben's dreams. Narrated by trumpet virtuoso Clark Terry. 2.) The Grey Lady and the Strawberry Snatcher--Based on the book by Molly Bang. Although Molly Bang has described it as "basically a chase scene between a woman who buys a basket of strawberries and a snatcher who tries to take them away," this wordless narrative is also a visual allegory. As the snatcher begins his pursuit down red-brick paths past lovely shops and elegant doorways, through an eerie swamp and a lush forest, the Grey Lady eludes him in mysterious ways. 3.) Fables--Based on the book by Arnold Lobel. Narrated by Lobel himself, these twentieth-century fables feature animal protagonists with very human characteristics. The seven tales include: 1. The Crocodile in the Bedroom. 2. The Hen and the Apple Tree. 3. The Lobster and the Crab. 4. The Camel Dances. 5. The Elephant and His Son. 6. The Pelican and the Crane. 7. The Mouse at the Seashore.
