Summary
This enactment of the Richler short story convincingly recreates a Jewish home and neighborhood in wartime Montreal. Sammy Nissbaum, a cavalier self-centered 12-year-old is peeved when his parents offer his room to Mr. Bambinger, a homeless Jewish refugee from Nazi Germany. When Bambinger's wife and child are tragically killed en route to him, Sonny is finally moved to compassion.
