Summary

This sampling of work by Dutch video artists includes: "Ikonen" (Jaap de Jonge, color, 5 min.) - The videomaker works with graphic symbols that look like computer-animated images but were specially handmade. "Videya" (Babeth, color, 8 min.) was conceived as an installation piece for three monitors. At its center, the mantra-tape, Vid-ya, reveals the Goddess of Golden Aura. To her left, the Goddess Nut, reversed, and to her right, the Fundamentalist Goddess of the Holy Cow. Babeth creates a ritualistic sign language, "semiogenesis," by combining painted backgrounds with 16 mm film images videographically. "The Titanic" (Yvonne Oerlemans, color, 1 min.) - "By the interweaving of two opposing movements, a third, the synthesis, is actuated." "Postcards" (Yvonne Oerlemans, color, 3 min.) - "Snapshots of direct recorded thoughts, from a sublime perspective. A point of view in which thinking and doing coincide in an imaginary reality." "Landfall" (Titia Ex, color, 12 min.) - "Searching for sealed time in a contemporary environment/ creating an image that discloses the absolute by itself/ an image is capable to retain the experience of the/infinite by limiting the eternal,/ embodying the spiritual in material,/ framing the unbound/light distinguishes itself from darkness/emptiness is filled with time directly revealing itself as space/it happens between nothing and everything/a brief moment of existence." "The Car in my life as a bird" (Pieter Baan Müller, color, 6 min.) - "The tape deals with birth, life, death and the transition from old life to new. I regard my tapes as videopoems. Like a poem deals with language, I play with the image. This way...I create my own picture language."
