Summary
Following the success of their earlier film, Grass, and with the backing of Jesse Lasky, filmmakers Schoedsack and Cooper journeyed to Siam to make this dramatized documentary about the life of Lao tribesman Kru, his wife Chu and son Nah. Having settled a small patch of land on the edge of the jungle, the family survives under constant threat of predatory animals - bears, tigers and leopards. Kru leads an expedition to kill a tiger but is beseiged by other formidable jungle inhabitants, the changs. These are the herd of elephants which stampede through the village destroying everything in their path. At the time of its initial screening, this climactic scene was enlarged to an enormous size through a process called magnascope, leaving the audience breathless. After this cinematic expedition, Schoedsak and Cooper went on to make King Kong. (Circulates)
