- Summary
- This program combines the second and third books of The Chronicles of Narnia. In the legendary kingdom, young Prince Caspian trains to assume the throne, a position held by his uncle, King Miraz who murdered Caspian's father. Caspian's nanny was banished for telling the boy stories of ancient Narnia, the wondrous land of talking beasts, fauns, dwarves and other magical creatures. Dr. Cornelius, Caspian's tutor, learns of a plot to kill the prince, thus clearing the way for Miraz's newborn son to one day become ruler. Caspian retreats to the wood where he meets the legendary beings. His safe haven is threatened, however, by the advance of Miraz and his army. Caspian blows his magic horn to summon help from Aslan the lion and the four English children, Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy, the monarchs of Narnia. Miraz's troops clash with the army of the forest and are defeated. Aslan confers the kingship on Caspian and the children are sent home to England. Because they are too old, Peter and Susan will not return to Narnia. Lucy and Edmund go to live with their obnoxious cousin, Eustace. In his bedroom, they discover a painting of the beautiful Narnia ship, the Dawn Treader and all three are drawn into the picture, and another adventure. In Book 3, Lucy and Edmund cross paths with their old friend King Caspian aboard the Dawn Treader. Caspian has set out on a voyage to locate the seven last lords, noblemen who were loyal to his father and banished by evil King Miraz to the Lone Islands. The vessel arrives in Felimath where the travelers are captured and sold as slaves. Caspian is purchased by Lord Bern, revealed to be one of his father's allies, who helps the crew continue its journey. On one island, the thoroughly unpleasant Eustace finds a treasure and is suddenly metamorphosed into a dragon, Luckily, Aslan appears to restore him to his former self. Repelling a sea serpent, the Dawn Treader crew stops at another island where they find a lost lord submerged statuelike in a magical pool that turns everything to gold. On yet another isle, they discover an odd group of jumping mushrooms. Finally, they approach an eerie land, the domain of a beautiful princess and her white-bearded wizard father, where the remaining lords are imprisoned in slumber. The necromancer tells them that the spell will only be broken if the voyagers sail to the end of the earth and one of their number remains behind, never to return. The stalwart mouse Reebicheep volunteers. The lords awaken and Caspian marries the comely princess. Aslan the lion leads the children to their world. Due to their age, Lucy and Edmund will no longer be able to re-enter the world of Narnia.
