Summary
Animation and lively fiddle music accompany this adaptation that recounts an amusing chain of cause and effect. In response to her mother's inquiry about her class trip to a farm, a girl reports that it was rather boring, "until the cow started crying." When her mother asks why the bovine creature was so distressed, the girl says it was because a haystack fell on her and forthwith retraces a string of farmyard mishaps. The farmer bumped into the haystack with his tractor because he was yelling at the pigs who were aboard the schoolbus devouring the students' lunches. They were eating the pupils' food because the schoolchildren were hurling their corn ears at each other. The children were throwing corn because they had run out of eggs. They were pommeling each other with eggs all because Jimmy brought his boa constrictor on the outing to meet the other animals. Invading the chicken coop, the snake frightened the birds so that one laid an egg on Jimmy's head. Jenny thought Tommy was the egg-wielding culprit and an egg battle ensued. While their teacher, Mrs. Stanley, frantically herded the children back onto the bus, the class could hear the screams of the farmer's wife but could not discern the reason why. The boa constrictor was eating the wash. One of the pigs remained on the bus and became Jimmy's new pet; the boa constrictor is today the hearth companion of the farmer couple.
