- Summary
- Anxious to escape the demands of caring for her developmentally disabled sister, Louann, 12-year-old Amy Treloar eagerly accepts Aunt Clare's invitation to stay with her in the rambling house once owned by Clare's grandparents. Stored in the attic is a beautiful replica of the home complete with dolls made to resemble Amy's father, aunt and great-grandparents. When Amy asks how her great-grandparents died, Aunt Clara becomes evasive, impelling the girl to do some research at the local library. Perusing old newspapers, Amy is horrified to discover that her great-grandparents were brutally murdered in their home, while her father, five years old at the time, slept hidden in a closet. The mystery deepens when Amy discovers that the dollhouse figures have been rearranged to reflect their location at the time of death. Amy is convinced that the dolls are trying to communicate with her. With help from Louann, Amy solves a thirty-year puzzle and so assuages the guilt Aunt Clare has borne for so many years.
