- Description
- 1 videocassette (27 min.) : sd., col.; 1/2 in.
- Summary
- Six individuals, representing first and second generation Chinese Americans, describe their experiences working and living in laundries. Subject to social hostility and the discriminatory policies of the U.S. government, many Asian immigrants were forced to labor in laundries under deplorable conditions because they were banned from other jobs. The stories of laundry workers and their families are highlighted by family snapshots, rare photographs, prose and music. Blending history and art, this documentary chronicles the legacies of this American immigrant group.
