Summary
The Jewish Daily Forward, "the world's most successful Yiddish-language newspaper," was founded in 1870 and served as information source, teacher and labor advocate for hundreds of thousands of immigrants. This documentary visits the paper's New York City editorial offices and presents excerpts from the Forward's "Bintel Brief" or Dear Abby column, its "Gallery of Missing Husbands," translations of world literature and American success stories. The film features interviews with the newspaper's staff including author Isaac Bashevis Singer and with longtime readers and critics. It concludes with the Forward's 90th anniversary celebration and the retirement of Simon Weber its editor of 48 years.
