Summary

Kenneth R. Pelletier is director of the public health program at the University of California at San Francisco School of Medicine and a consultant to the National Institutes of Health, Blue Cross and the World Health Organization. He is the author of Healthy people in unhealthy places, Longevity, Holisic medicine, Mind as healer, mind as slayer, Toward a science of consciousness and Consciousness: east and west. One of the world's foremost authorities on the holistic lifestyle, Pelletier notes that the health of the whole being requires both individual responsibility and proper support from the health care system. In this two-part program, he reviews the issue of environmental toxins including pesticides and preservatives, summarizes the literature regarding the effects of alcohol use and discusses various facets of diet such as unsaturated fats, cholesterol, sugar, proteins and food supplements. He delineates which types of exercises are most conducive to long-term health and addresses the positive contributions of spirituality and personal attunement with nature.
