Description

Summary
The Native American way of life stresses harmony with nature. In this far-ranging talk, Rolling Thunder, a Cherokee Indian and intertribal medicine man, contrasts this philosphy with the notion of mankind as dominator over the natural world. He describes the natural powers of native peoples which emerge from an attunement with nature. These include the ability to communicate with plants and animals, telepathic interactions, and the ability to make rain. He reveals the shamanistic methods he employs in healing and details his journeys to the worlds of the spirits. Rolling Thunder visited the San Francisco area at the time of this program to help end a drought by conducting rain ceremonies. Two evenings before the interview, he performed a lightning dance. That night, the region was visited by a thunder and lightning storm lasting several hours, a rare event in the San Francisco area.
