- Summary
- James Daugherty used to be an illustrator for other people's books until an editor at Viking Press encouraged him to write and illustrate one of his own. His first book, a biography of Daniel Boone, was awarded the Newbery Medal. Daugherty has since written biographies of Paul Revere, Daniel Webster, Thomas Paine, Benjamin Franklin and Henry Davis Thoreau. In this film, the author describes his working methodology and is shown in his studio where he displays the preliminary sketches for his books.
