- Summary
- This film, based on the memoirs of Lilla Cabot Perry, combines views of Claude Monet's gardens at Giverny with his paintings. The American artist and her husband, Thomas Sargent Perry, were friends of the Impressionist master and spent ten summers in Giverny between 1889-1909. The film also includes works by Whistler, Sargent, Mary Cassatt, Berthe Morisot and Pissarro along with paintings by Perry and her American friends at Giverny: Theodore Robinson, John Breck, Theodore Butler and Frederick Frieseke. Special emphasis is placed on Monet's famous series: haystacks, poplars, the Rouen Cathedral, followed by mornings on the Seine, the Japanese bridge and the water lilies.
