- Summary
- Ten-year-old Sal is disappointed that she and her parents will spend the Christmas holidays at her grandmother's country house instead of at home. Once there, and in search of activity, Sal explores the attic and finds a blue coat at the bottom of an old trunk. Trying it on, Sal is magically transported back in time to a snow-covered field. At the reins of a beautiful sleigh appears a girl of Sal's age named Sarah. Sarah shows Sal the "early" Christmas gift given to her by her parents - a hand-carved box embossed with a beautifully painted butterfly. Removing the coat, Sal finds herself once again in the attic. When Sal's grandmother presents her with an "early" Christmas gift, Sal realizes that the olden days coat has once again worked a wonderful magic.
