- Description
- 1 videocassette (60 min.) : sd., col.; 1/2 in.
- Summary
- Rastafarianism is a religion and Black liberation movement that developed in Jamaica and spread throughout the Caribbean, to North America and Great Britain. Its adherents, who trace their roots to the ancient Israelites, revere a Black god and regard Ethiopian Emperor Haile Selassie I as the returned Messiah. This videotape uses interviews with Rastafari women, including reggae artist Judy Mowatt, to examine the Black woman's situation in Jamaica, the place of women within the Rastafari movement, and the Rastafari woman's self-image.
