- Summary
- Betsy Hearne, Assistant Professor of Library Science at the University of Chicago, talks about creating and developing the love of books in preschool children. Hearne, who is also a storyteller, children's book reviewer, writer and musician, relates how best to introduce books to children. She evaluates book illustration and narrative, describes storytelling and reading-aloud skills, and discusses the levels of children's involvement with and comprehension of books. Hearnes reads from a variety of children's books, beginning with simple cloth and board books and progressing to humorous tales and complex stories.
