- Summary
- This musical comedy-cum-documentary is a personal memoir of three Native American sisters growing up,in Brooklyn during the 1930's and 40's. For more than decade, Lisa, Gloria and Muriel Miguel have been incorporating vignettes from their family history as part of their Spiderwoman Theatre repertoire. In this profile, the sisters perform humorous skits that re-enact in hyperbolic newsreel fashion, the birth of the youngest Miguel sibling and a daring discovery regarding male anatomy. Home movies and reminiscences are combined to recapture holiday celebrations and those bittersweet summers when the Miguels as well as aunts and uncles would perform in an Indian medicine show to entertain white tourists. The film concludes with poignant memories of a troubled father, a Cuna Indian from Panama, who never quite adjusted to life in the United States.
