Description
1 videocassette (58 min.) : sd., col.; 1/2 in.
Summary
Archival footage, photographs and contemporary interviews are meshed to trace the history of the Universal Fellowship of Metropolitan Community Churches, the "gay church" dedicated to the spiritual ministry of lesbians and gay men. Founder Troy D. Perry describes the Metropolitan Community Church's humble beginnings in a friend's living room and its continuous growth over the years. Active in the gay liberation and gay civil rights movements, the Mother Church in Los Angeles and its satellite churches around the country have been the targets of violent anti-gay groups but have persevered and expanded outreach services. Preaching a gospel of love, acceptance and inclusion from the pulpit, Perry and fellow clergy have extended the church's message to prisoners, persons with AIDS and MCC affiliates around the world.
