- Description
- 1 film reel (34 min.) ; sd., b&w.; 16 mm.
- Summary
- Described as a "feminist murder mystery," Potter's experimental work uses Puccini's opera La Boheme as a model for deconstruction of the Hollywood film and the conventional role of women as romantic victims in fiction. The story of the opera is told from the seamstress heroine's point of view and questions the representation of women in classical art. Potter links psychoanlaytic and Marxist discourses with those of the narrative to expose the hardships women suffered as a result of the industrial revolution and to analyze the male conception of creativity as it emerged during the Romantic movement.
