Description
1 videocassette (57 min.) : sd., col.; 1/2 in.
Summary
Titian, master painter of the Venice School, had an incalculable influence on the course of European art. He was also a ruthlessly adept self-promoter. Taking the viewer to Venice, Rome, Madrid and Vienna, this program recounts the drama of Titian's life and analyzes his work in terms of its major categories, religious paintings, portraits and allegorical/mythological subjects. It describes his early close association with Giovanni Bellini and Giorgione and his rise to prominence in the courts of Europe. During the course of a distinguished career, Titian was commissioned by the d'Este court of Ferrara, Emperor Charles V, the Gonzaga family of Mantua and Philip II of Spain.
