- Summary
- This animated version of the age-old tale is introduced with a contemporary twist, as a stage play starring three brilliant pig actors. The drama begins with an old sow sending her three porcine offspring out into the world to seek their fortune. The first pig encounters a man with a cart of straw and purchases the load intending to build a house. When the man expresses doubts about the wisdom of such a plan, the pig rebuffs him exclaiming curtly, "Mind your own business!" The structure proves sorely inadequate against a lean and hungry wolf who huffs and puffs, blows the house down and gobbles up the pig. The second pig meets a man bearing a bundle of sticks and reveals that he too intends to build a domicile. "I'd think twice," says the man. "Oh pooh," replies the pig. The wolf happens by, blows the house down and consumes the foolish creature. The third pig, possessing infinitely more sense than his siblings, purchases a supply of bricks from a merchant who thinks it a "capital idea" that he will build an abode of such durable material. Hoping to feast on yet another delicious morsel, the wolf arrives but is unable to budge the pig's sturdy and attractive home. Attempting to entrap the pig through guile, the wily predator invites his intended victim to pick turnips and gather apples, but the pig rises early and eludes the wolf. Finally, the wolf is vanquished by a rolling butter churn and becomes the sumptuous dinner of the pragmatic pig. When the curtain is drawn at the end of the story, the three pigs take their bows as does the wolf.
