- Description
- 2 film reels (70 min.) : si. col.; 16 mm.
- Summary
- A film in which nearly every image was photographed through a crystal ashtray. The camera concentrates on a small area of glass and records multiple patterns of light and color. Brakhage uses the ashtray as an extension of the camera lens, as a "window" on various shape and light patterns and visions. The filmmaker identifies two statements as being integral to the work: Duns Scotus Erigena's "All that is is light," and William Blakes's "To see the world in a grain of sand." Images that seem similar or repetitious reveal subtle variations which become increasingly important.
