- Description
- 1 videocassette (26 min.) : sd., col.; 1/2 in.
- Summary
- "Nurtured in the warm glow of a neon smoked meats sign," fictitious showgirl Gloria Raposo acts as enthusiastic guide to the wonderful world of neon. Incorporating historical and technical information with matters of personal import (i.e., romance with a "bender" or neon craftsman), Gloria waxes breathless on the neon glories of Times Square, Las Vegas, Route 66 and numerous neon pit stops in between. Although many vintage electric signposts lie "cold" in neon graveyards, contemporary artists are using the luminescent gas a medium of expression. Their works, far from the hum of the highway, are being displayed in specialty stores like New York City's Let It Be Neon and in museums like L.A.'s Museum of Neon Art (MONA) founded by artist Lili Lakich.
