- Summary
- When Rudy Herrera unexpectedly receives an invitation to a pool party at the home of wealthy classmate Tiffany Perez, family members eagerly come forward to offer advice. Thinking his grandson is invited to a game of billiards, Rudy's addled grandfather insists on giving him pointers. Counseling his son on the finer points of smalltalk, Rudy's father advises: "Be true to yourself, check out the scene and come home with a piece of cake." Rudy's sister recommends that he bring a suitable pool toy. On the day of the grand event, Rudy startles partygoers with a huge inner tube, obtained through the good graces of best friend Alex and his connections in the used tire business. While at the party, the unabashed guest whistles his appreciation of the magic act and asks the harpist if she knows "La Bamba." Sorely disappointed at the paltry portions of the refreshments, Rudy is only too happy to return to his lower-middle-class home and the bounteous meal that awaits him.
