- Summary
- Although Native Americans are the true indigenous people of this country, little is seen about them beyond the stereotypes depicted in cartoons, liquor and cigarette ads and sports logos. In the wake of Quincentennial events celebrating the arrival of Columbus in the Americas, EVC students attempt to analyze some of these stereotypes by interviewing Native American teenagers, cultural critics and political activists who strive daily to overcome the obstacles created since they were first "discovered" by Columbus and given the erroneous name of "Indians." The EVC team also explores the historical and contemporary relationships between Native Americans and the African American and Latino communities.
