- Summary
- Ellen is such an unruly, disobedient child that her father sends her away to school. She is disobedient there, also. One day she goes out by herself, and is robbed by gypsies who force her to work for them until she becomes so weak and sick that they abandon her. She is found and nursed back to health by a kind old woman, in whose care Ellen learns to be grateful, obedient, and to value the education she rejected before. Eventually she is reunited with her parents, who welcome her back, now that she has learned to be a good girl.
