- Description
- 1 videocassette (60 min.) : sd. col.; 1/2 in.
- Summary
- In this investigative report, DCTV documents the economic hardships experienced by immigrants from Taiwan and Hong Kong in New York City's Chinatown. Waiters work 60-hour weeks for $100 in earnings. Restaurants, laundries, and garment manufacturing sweatshops are the only employers for people who cannot speak English. Many waiters dream of owning their own restaurants, but competition is so cutthroat that 90% of them go bankrupt within one year. Reporter Jon Alpert visits sweatshops where workers are exploited. (This tape is also available in 3/4 in. format).
