Description
1 videocassette (35 min.) : sd., b&w/col.; 1/2 in.
Summary
Cab Calloway sings the title song of this documentary about the 1930's dance craze called the jitterbug by some, by others the lindy hop or swing dancing. In Harlem clubs like the Apollo, Savoy Ballroom and Cotton Club, Count Basie, Benny Goodman, and Cab Calloway played while legendary dancers Al Minns, Normal Miller and Frank Manning danced. The jitterbug was the first art form to break the color barrier; at the Savoy, blacks and whites danced together. The reminiscences of musicians and dancers are complemented by lively archival footage. Today, young people are heeding "the call of the jitterbug" by taking classes with Mama Lu Parks.
