Summary
The First International Festival of Percussion which took place in Guadaloupe in 1986 featured sacred drums from Haiti, kora from West Africa, and ingouma from Burundi. Nana Vasconcelos played the birimbau from Brazil; the group Djoliba brought together the musical traditions of West Africa - Peuhl, Bambara, Senonfo, Malinko. Ankonio Dollo, "Dogon de Paris," played with black saxophonist Sulaiman Hakim and Raymond Betzi, the percussionist from Martinique.
