- Summary
- In 1937 the Soviet government ordered Eisenstein to stop production on Bezhin Meadow because of its "biblical and mythological" characters and events. The film was never finished. The present version is composed entirely of "stills" made from frames of the original footage. Little dramatic impact remains in this abbreviated version of a "progressive" son's fatal conflict with his "reactionary" father, but there are many memorable images indicative of Eisenstein's visual interests at that time.
