- Description
- 1 sound tape reel (53:44) : analog, 7 1/2 ips., full track mono.; 10 in.
- Summary
- Intermission features Hugh Ross, director of the Schola Cantorum in New York, whose association with Toscanini goes back ten years prior to maestro's engagement at the NBC Symphony Orchestra, when he came to maestro to discuss the tempi of Verdi's Requiem. Ross analyzes Toscanini's gift of understanding and managing the tempi even in most complex music works such as Beethoven's last movement of symphony no. 4. He says that maestro had an insight, an intuitive sensibility to the art of music, and was the most "faithful messenger of the composer's intentions."
