Description
1 sound tape reel (53:24) : analog, 7 1/2 ips., full track mono.; 10 in.
Summary
During the intermission, Ben Grauer presents an interview he taped in London with Vera Newman (the widow of a prominent music writer Ernest Newman) who knew and admired Toscanini and never missed a single concert of his if she happened to be in the city in which maestro was performing. Her husband, whose books Toscanini read, also admired maestro and had many talks with him not only about music, but other topics such as books, pictures etc. During the war, Toscanini regularly sent the Newmans food parcels and encouraged others to do so. Mrs. Newman calls Toscanini the most "unconceited man" and a true servant of music.
