- 10 photographic prints : gelatin silver, b&w; 26 x 21 cm. or smaller.
- Summary
- Photographs of civic leader Harriet Pickens who served in the U.S. Navy as a lieutenant in the WAVES, from 1944 to 1946, consisting of quarter and three-quarter length studio portraits. Pickens is also depicted in group portraits including one with Alida Darley, Director, Nurses Training School, Harlem Hospital; and with a boy promoting a Christmas Seal fundraising campaign. Collection also includes views of Pickens addressing a group at the New York Public Library (1947); registering, along with Jean Blackwell Hutson, and others for the Planning Institute at the Countee Cullen Branch of the New York Public Library (1952); and pointing to a map of Harlem, New York, that had recorded tuberculosis statistics (1950).
