Summary
On February 4, 2004 on the tidal flats of Morecambe Bay, England, a group of illegal Chinese immigrants picking cockles was trapped by 30-foot tides. 23 died in the worst industrial accident in Britain for 25 years. Dramatized in the film, the story is emblematic of the dilemma of the immigrant in Europe, where undocumented workers are an integral part of the economies. In this critical analysis of the immigration debate in Europe, a cross-section of immigrants relate their experiences, from successful to disastrous, in Spain, Germany, and England. The Morecambe Bay tragedy was only one a many such stories and the film is an unambiguous call to stop the hypocrisy and political posturing and develop consistent humane policies for the foreigners who come to do the jobs Westerners will not.
