Summary
Nobel laureate Dr. Günter Blobel shares new research into the origins, mechanics and behavior of cells in a lecture accompanied by slides and video. Subjects covered in the talk include how cells arose four billion years ago, the continuous division and evolution of cells since their origin, the merging of cells during conception, the qualities of stem cells, programmed cell death, cell migration and movement, how cells heal wounds and fight bacteria, the mechanism by which bacteria move. A question-and-answer session follows the lecture; Dr. Blobel responds to questions about the possibilities of creating cells, curing Alzheimers and other diseases, and early detection of cancer.
