Summary

Sharry Traver Underwood discusses her upbringing and childhood; how she became a dancer; attending Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival where she studied with Joseph Pilates, Ted Shawn, Bronislava Nijinska, and Ruth St. Denis; her move to New York City to pursue a dance career; her first professional work for Starlight Operetta where she obtained her equity card; finding a job in New York; her first Broadway show, Bloomer Girl; studying with Hanya Holm, Charles Weidman and Doris Humphrey; joining the Charles Weidman Dance Company; performing in Ballet Ballads which moved to the Music Box Theater on Broadway and Finian's Rainbow with choreography by Michael Kidd; creating her own choreographic works in Vermont; and the letter she wrote to Anges De Mille with the response she received.
