Summary
  • Composer/performer Stew and his collaborator Heidi Rodewald discuss their rock musical Passing strange with hosts Michael Riedel and Susan Haskins. They describe the process of turning a rock concert-style performance into a theater piece suitable for Broadway, while nonetheless keeping it unlike most traditional musicals. Includes brief excerpts from the show.
  • Film historian and professor Jerry W. Carlson discusses the stage version of Alfred Hitchcock's 1935 film The 39 steps. Carlson examines the film and its place in Hitchcock's body of work, and also looks at the director's relationship with the stage. Includes brief excerpts from the movie and the stage version.
