Summary
Caffe Cino, the Greenwich Village coffee house where hundreds of plays, poetry readings, and musical revues were staged between 1958 and 1968, is commemorated along with its founder Joe Cino (1931-1967). Near the spot where Caffe Cino originally stood on Cornelia Street a number of veterans from the early days of the Off Off-Broadway movement are present as a proclamation is read declaring Joe Cino Appreciation Day, and a plaque is unveiled saluting Cino and his arts venue. Some participants are briefly interviewed. Inside the Cornelia Street Cafe next door actors and playwrights share memories of Cino and the plays he presented. Tribute is also paid to the Caffe Cino veterans who have died in the AIDS epidemic.
