Summary
Music critic Tim Page interviews Otto Luening, a composer and conductor. Luening speaks about composer and pianist Ferruccio Busoni's influence on all of his music. He talks in detail about his musical tribute to Busoni. He also talks about the importance of regional development of new musical styles, speaking of talent in the Midwest, which isn't tied to the biggest American musical culture centers New York or Los Angeles. Having been knowns as a pioneer of electronic music, he speaks about the beginning of the electronic music era, and becoming "a personality" based on his electronic works. He talks about his String quartet no. 2 written in 1922, and being still played in the 1960s; and provides background of his work Fantasy in space. During his interview excerpts from the Sonata for piano in memoriam Ferruccio Busoni and Fantasy in space are played.
