- Summary
- Music critic Tim Page interviews American contemporary classical music composer George Rochberg. Rochberg talks about his early years, that he was always very involved with traditional classical music. Speaking about the diversity in modern musical styles, he says contemporary classical music is a way of reestablishing a connection with the language of the past, the language of Mozart, Bach and Brahms. He talks also about the creation of a new musical language as a bridge between the traditional classical music and the new forms and styles of music in today's world. The composer speaks about the influence of Haydn's music on his creativity, which we can be felt in his Symphony no. 4. Rochberg talks in some detail about this Symphony; and during his interview the excerpts from it are played.
