- Summary
- Theater talk examines Mart Crowley's controversial 1968 drama The boys in the band, which is generally regarded as a breakthrough depiction of homosexuality on stage. On hand to discuss the play are author Crowley, actor Laurence Luckinbill, who appeared in the original Off-Broadway production and in the 1970 film version, and columnist Michael Musto. Crowley describes the origins of the play, some reactions to it, and, with Luckinbill, talks about the cast members and the impact the production had on their lives and careers. Musto discusses the significance of the play in gay culture. Includes excerpts from the film version.
