- Martin Bookspan interviews American popular music composer Harold Arlen. Arlen speaks about his life and career as a musical composer and songwriter. He discusses his work for the Cotton Club, a popular Harlem night club, as well as for Broadway musicals such as House of flowers (lyrics and book by Truman Capote) (1954), and Hollywood films; his well-known songs, including Get happy (1929) (lyrics by Ted Koehler), Over the rainbow (used for the MGM 1939 production of The Wizard of Oz), and Down with love. He also talks about his experience working with various lyricists such as Ted Koehler, E.Y. "Yip" Harburg, and Johnny Mercer.
