Summary
Eliza Frances Robertson, an instructor and children's book writer, taught school with Miss Sharpe at Greenwich from 1795. After inheriting some money in 1799, she ran up debts and was accused of large-scale swindling and of being variously a prostitute, a lesbian, and a man in drag. This is one of several books she wrote pleading her case (cf. Blain et al., The feminist companion to English literature, p. 912).
