- "Sheldon Lord" is a pseudonym used by the mystery writer Lawrence Block, a Mystery Writers of America Grand Master best known for two series: one features private investigator Matthew Scudder, and the other, burglar Bernie Rhodenbarr. Block has published more than 50 novels.
- Bound in illustrated paper wrappers, front wrapper with illustration of nude woman partially wrapped in bed sheet, crouching on bed as bearded man watches.
- This novel was published in 2008 by Hard Crime Case under Block's name and the title "A Diet of Treacle," which was Block's preferred title, rejected by his original publisher. The later title is taken from "Alice in Wonderland," and the 2008 edition has a foreword containing an excerpt from "Alice" about people who live on "treacle" (i.e., drugs) and become ill.
- "An uncensored novel of love among the Beats, where every man does as he pleases-- and every chick aims to please." -- From the front wrapper. "The wild beat life with its free-wheeling love arrangements, its pursuit of perverse kicks, its weird zen-and-sex parties [...]." -From the back wrapper.
