- Summary
- Martha Lavey, artistic director of Chicago's Steppenwolf Theatre Company, discusses the history of the company, its recent activities, and plans for the future. Lavey, who is also an actor, describes the Steppenwolf as an actors' theater. She delineates the evolution of the company's decision-making process, and recounts stories of the ensemble's early days involving founders Gary Sinise and Terry Kinney, subsequent members John Malkovich and Tina Landau, and others. She discusses several administrative issues and a number of significant productions in the company's history, including Sam Shepard's drama True West, Frank Galati's stage adaptation of John Steinbeck's novel The grapes of wrath, and Tracy Letts' award-winning drama August: Osage County.
