- Coral Martindale (Aubert) discusses dancing at the Henry St. Settlement as a student; how she met Alwin Nikolais and became involved in the Henry Street Playhouse; what were Mr. Nikolais' ideas for class and the impact of dancing in his work; choreographing solos and duets; dancing in Disc section of Kaleidoscope; dancing with Bill Frank; how Nikolais handled gender; what took her to Chemical Bank and her rise up the ladder to become Vice President; teaching workshops and seminars in her Harlem bank to assist small business owners with obtaining loans; teaching creative dance to urban kids in Brooklyn; her personal life changing experience of dealing with a brain tumor; her role in the company as an African American dancer including racism during touring; where modern dance is going and its lack of connection with the community.
