- Note
- José Limón teaches the last part of a beginning dance class (track 1- ca. 3:10 into track 5; ca. 24 min.) and the first part of an advanced dance class (from ca. 3:15 into track 5 - track 14; ca. 35 min.), in each case accompanied by piano music. The recording consists primarily of Limón's instructions, his comments, which are extensive at times, and counting, as well as the sounds of the piano music and the students' exercises. The voice of a woman, possibly Carol Lynn, can also be heard specifying movements and counting. She also announces the beginning (and later, the continuation) of the advanced class. The recording ends abruptly; a recording of the latter part of the advanced class is cataloged in the Library's Oral History Archive under the title: José Limón: advanced and beginning classes. Aug. 21 and Aug. 22, 1951 .
- Sound quality is fair to poor. The recording is distorted, there are occasional short gaps, and at times the speaker's voice is difficult to understand.
