Summary
Carol Baron interviews Raoul Pleskow, an Austrian-born American composer and teacher. Pleskow discusses his life and career, his family background, his studies at the Juilliard School in New York City (1950-1952), and at Queens College (1952-1956), where he studied composition. He also talks about his meetings with Stefan Wolpe at Post College, Long Island University where they both taught in 1950's-1960's that led to their friendship. The composer speaks about his and Wolpe's common interest in 12-tone music, and analyzes some of his musical works. He provides some facts from S. Wolpe's private life such as his interest in poetry and painting, his marriages and his late years when he was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. Talking about Wolpe's funeral, he regrets that it was not a traditional Jewish funeral ceremony.
